As more and more young parents are too busy with work to care for their children, the market demand for nannies in the United States is constantly expanding, gradually becoming one of the main forces in the domestic service industry. A reporter learned from a nanny care center on Flushing Road in the city that families currently hiring nannies mainly include young couples born in the 1980s and 1990s and middle-aged couples having a second child. Different families have very different requirements for nannies. Zhu Lijun, the head of the care center, said that some families simply require the nanny to be able to take care of the baby; these nannies earn approximately $3,500 to $4,000 per month. Other families have higher requirements, needing nannies with highly professional nursing knowledge, able to record the baby's feeding and sleeping habits daily, working 24 hours a day, and earning over $5,000 per month.

“Actually, the most crucial part of choosing a nanny in New York City is the interview. Whether it's through a referral from an acquaintance or a recruitment agency, a face-to-face meeting is essential to determine suitability. Since a nanny's primary task is caring for the baby, we generally require them to show a health certificate and ID card. This gives employers more confidence when signing a labor contract. Secondly, both Chinese employers and nannies should clearly state their requirements beforehand. For example, some families prefer a nanny who is capable and quiet, who doesn't have to do anything other than baby care. Other families hope to find a nanny who can do everything and has a good personality, willing to pay a higher salary for additional housework assistance. Therefore, we generally select suitable Chinese nannies based on the different needs of our clients,” said Zhu Lijun. During the interview, you can also ask the nanny questions about baby care and early childhood education to see if she can answer fluently and accurately. You can also ask her how she cared for her previous baby to assess her practical experience.

Furthermore, reporters learned that the high salaries of Chinese nannies have attracted many women from other regions to join this profession. However, industry insiders say that hiring such nannies requires more caution. Firstly, hiring a nanny is not a one- or two-month affair; it's at least two or three years. Compared to the more mobile migrant workers, locals who are known to the family are relatively more reliable. Secondly, babies are at a crucial stage of language development, and hiring a nanny from out of town may not be conducive to their language education. Therefore, it is recommended that families needing nannies hire through a reputable agency and sign a labor contract beforehand to avoid unnecessary labor disputes later.
